                                    JOB DESCRIPTION

 

 

 

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:

            1.         240 day contract (12 month).

            2.         Job Type:       Licensed Administrator.

            3.         Reports to:     Assistant Superintendent of Schools or designee.

            4.         Salary based on district Licensed Salary Schedule for the position.

            5.         FLSA Status: Exempt.

            6.        10 days vacation per year of employment.                        

            7.        12 days sick leave per year of employment.
                     
            8.         3 days personal leave per year.

  
PERSONAL QUALIFICATIONS:

            1.         Valid Arkansas Department of Education (ADE) License with a principal
                        endorsement; must have earned TESS Certification.

            2.         Master’s Degree required.

            3.         Must have at least three (3) years successful teaching experience prior to
                        previous successful public school administrative experience.

            4.         Must be able to think and plan from a campus level perspective.

            5.         Must be a visionary and innovative; be able to create short and long-
                        range goals.

            6.         Demonstrate excellent leadership skills, organizational skills, and the
                        ability to motivate people.

            7.         Demonstrate good moral character, integrity, and initiative.  Strictly follow
                        the Code of Ethics for Arkansas Educators.

            8.         Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of curriculum development
                        and program evaluation, effective instructional strategies, classroom
                        management, learning assessment and diagnosis, and research related to
                        learning.

            9.         Exhibit a personality that demonstrates enthusiasm and interpersonal
                        skills to relate well with students, staff, administration, parents and the
                        community.

            10.       Demonstrate the ability to communicate effectively both orally and in
                        writing.


GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES but not limited to:

    1. Establish and promote high standards and expectations for all students      
        and staff for academic performance and responsibility for behavior. 

  1. Organize, manage, evaluate, and supervise effective and clear procedures for the operation and functioning of the entire school consistent with the philosophy, mission, values and goals of the school and district, including instructional programs in the Core Curriculum Content Standards, extracurricular activities, discipline systems to ensure a safe and orderly climate, financial management, facilities maintenance, program evaluation, personnel management, office operations, emergency procedures, and community relations. 
  1. Ensure compliance with all laws, administrative codes, Board policies and regulations, including Affirmative Action mandates. 
  1. Collect and analyze data regarding the needs and achievement of students, including State assessments, and other pertinent information affecting the design and implementation of services and programs, using the information to recommend new programs and modifications to existing programs. 
  1. Lead school level planning processes to ensure the development, implementation, and evaluation of all school programs and activities.
  1. Establish the master schedule for instructional programs, ensuring sequential learning experiences for students. 
  1. Supervise the instructional programs of the school, evaluating lesson plans and observing classes on a regular basis to encourage the use of a variety of instructional strategies and materials consistent with research on learning and child growth and development. 
  1. Ensure that the instructional programs engage the learner in tasks that require analytical and critical thinking, questioning the known, problem solving and creativity, that they address the range of skills and developmental needs found in the classroom, that they encourage the student to define individual goals and accept responsibility for learning, and that they provide a variety of methods for the student to demonstrate performance and achievement. 
  1. Provide and supervise in a fair and consistent manner effective discipline and attendance systems with high standards, consistent with the philosophy, values, and mission of the school and district, in accordance with due process and other laws and regulations. 
  1. Establish a professional rapport with students and with staff that earns their respect. 
  1. Display the highest ethical and professional behavior and standards when working with students, parents, school personnel, and agencies associated with the school, strictly follow the Code of Ethics for Arkansas Educators. 
  1. Serve as a role model for students, dressing professionally, demonstrating the importance and relevance of learning, accepting responsibility, and demonstrating pride in the education profession. 
  1. Supervise all personnel assigned to the building, establishing clear expectations for role, responsibilities, and performance to ensure that all job responsibilities are met and exceeded. 
  1. Ensure that each professional staff member develops a Professional Improvement Plan (PIP). 
  1. Recommend to the Superintendent the renewal, dismissal, promotion or other actions for all personnel assigned to the school, following established procedures and timelines. 
  1. Recommend to the Superintendent personnel to fill all vacant positions in the school, following district affirmative action, recruitment and selection procedures. 
  1. Provide opportunities for effective staff development that address the needs of the instructional program and needs of the staff, including workshops, conferences, visitations, and sessions in which the staff shares successful practices and strategies. 
  1. Keep the staff informed and seek ideas for the improvement of the school. Conduct meetings as necessary for the proper functioning of the school. 
  1. Assume responsibility for the health, safety, and welfare of students, personnel, and visitors. Develop clearly understood procedures and provide regular drills for emergencies and disasters, following State, local, and district guidelines. 
  1. Disaster preparedness procedures shall include fire, bomb threats, severe weather, emergency closing or delayed opening of the school, accidents, bus accidents and traffic emergencies, civil disturbances, disruptions, death, personal tragedy, and other unusual circumstances. 
  1. Provide information to staff, students, and parents as necessary, and establish and follow procedures for dealing with the media. 
  1. Notify the Superintendent or designee immediately of any unusual circumstances. 
  1. Maintain a master schedule for the use of the school facilities. 
  1. Implement schedules and procedures for the supervision of students in non-classroom areas, including before and after school, bus loading and unloading, and cafeteria. 
  1. Maintain visibility with students, staff, parents, and the community, attending school and community functions regularly to demonstrate a genuine interest in the students and staff. 
  1. Communicate regularly with parents, seeking their support and advice, so as to create a cooperative relationship to support students in the school. 
  1. Supervise and approve the production of all school publications. 
  1. Use effective presentation skills when addressing students, staff, parents, and the community, including appropriate vocabulary and examples, clear and legible visuals, and articulate and audible speech. 
  1. Use excellent written and oral English skills when communicating with students, parents, and colleagues. 
  1. Complete in a timely fashion all records and reports as required by law and regulation or requested by the Superintendent or designee. Answer correspondence promptly. 
  1. Communicate with the Superintendent regularly about the needs, successes, and general operation of the school. 
  1. Ensure that personnel and student record keeping procedures comply with State and federal law and district policy. 
  1. Maintain positive, cooperative, and mutually supportive relationships with the central administration, parents, and representatives of resource agencies within the community. 
  1. Hold regular staff meetings and serve, as appropriate, on staff committees. 
  1. Represent the school and district at community, State, and professional meetings. 
  1. Continue to grow professionally through collaboration with colleagues and professional growth experiences. 
  1. Maintain a safe working condition and operate electronic and other equipment needed to carry out job functions and responsibilities. 
  1. Protect confidentiality of records and information gained as part of exercising professional duties and use discretion in sharing such information within legal confines. 
  1. Other duties as assigned by the Superintendent or designee.

SPECIFIC QUALIFICATIONS and/or REQUIREMENTS:

Physical Requirements:  Must be physically able to stand, walk, sit, occasionally stoop or bend.  Must be able to lift objects that fall within the scope of job responsibilities.  Must have the dexterity to perform the duties and responsibilities of the job.

Intelligence:  Requires the ability to read and follow a variety of instructions on district, state, and federal websites as well as hard copy.

Language Ability: Requires the ability to read a variety of correspondences.  Requires the ability to prepare reports, forms, system documentation, etc. using prescribed formats and conforming to all rules of grammar.

Verbal Aptitude:  Requires the ability to record and deliver information, to explain procedures, to give oral and written instructions.  Must be able to communicate effectively.  Must possess the ability to speak to people with poise, voice control, and confidence.  Must be able to deliver effective presentations to both small and large audiences.
