                                SHERIDAN SCHOOL DISTRICT
                     GENERAL MAINTENANCE JOB DESCRIPTION

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:

1.         250 day (12 mo.) contract; 8 hours per day.

2.         Salary based on district salary schedule for the position.

3.         12 days Sick Leave per year of employment.

4.         10 days paid vacation per year of employment.

5.         3 days personal leave.

PERSONAL QUALIFICATIONS:

1.         High school diploma or equivalent.

2.         Valid Arkansas driver’s license. (Must be able to drive a service truck or van.)

3.         Must pass an Arkansas State Police background check, an FBI background
            check, and a Department of Human Services background check all at your own
            expense. ($48.25)

4.         Good knowledge of the tools, techniques, and terminology associated with the
             general maintenance trades; electrical, plumbing, carpentry, and HVAC.

 

5.         Familiarity with the safety precautions of mechanical trades.

 

6.         Ability to perform basic helper skills related to the nature and scope of duties.

 

7.         Ability to understand and follow simple oral and written instructions.

 

8.         Ability to get along well with others to promote a positive working environment.

 

PRIMARY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

1.          Perform a variety of semiskilled duties in the areas of plumbing, carpentry, electrical,
             painting, and traffic control.

 

2.         Works to assist skilled maintenance workers (i.e., electrician, carpenter, plumber, and
            HVAC technician) with their work assignments.

 

3.         Maintenance workers maintain, service, and conduct minor repairs on buildings
            and equipment.

 

4.         Works with other semiskilled maintenance workers with assigned tasks.

 

5.          Maintain assigned equipment and tools for the purpose of ensuring availability in
             a safe operating condition. Promote and use best safety practices.

 

6.         Participate in meetings, workshops, training, and seminars, as assigned for the
            purpose of conveying and/or gathering information required to perform job functions.

 

7.         When necessary be able to inform others regarding procedures or the status of
            work orders.

 

8.         Other duties as assigned by the Director of Administrative Services and/or other assigned staff.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of district electrician.

While performing the duties of this job, an employee must:

1.         Regularly use hands to finger, handle, or feel, reach with hands and arms. 

2.         Talk or be able to listen and communicate verbally. 

3.         Frequently walk; climb or balance; and stoop; kneel, crouch, or crawl. 

4.         Be able to climb a ladder and possibly work from it or a lift. 

5.         Occasionally stand or sit, regularly lift and/or move and carry up to 10 pounds,
            frequently lift and/or move and carry up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift and/or
            move more than 100 pounds. 

6.         Occasionally work in confined areas of heights.
 
7.         Have vision abilities required by this job include close vision, depth perception,
            and ability to adjust focus.


Intelligence:
  Requires the ability to read and follow through with oral and written instructions.  Must be able to read complex blueprints, sketches, and schematics. Must be able to concentrate for extended periods of time in various conditions and in various situations.  Must possess necessary computer skills to order parts over the internet, access online work orders, and research any information needed. 

Language Ability: Requires the ability to read a variety of correspondences.  Requires the ability to prepare reports, forms, and/or system documentation.

Verbal Aptitude:  Requires the ability to record and deliver information, to explain procedures, to give oral and written instructions.  Must be able to communicate effectively with others in a positive and proper manner.
