                         SHERIDAN SCHOOL DISTRICT
                         TEACHER JOB DESCRIPTION



TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:

  1.      Minimum 190 day contract.  Contracts may have additional days added based on
         teaching assignment or additional responsibilities.
     
  2.      District salary schedule based on education and experience.

  3.      FLSA Status: EXEMPT
         
  4.      10 days Sick Leave per year of employment.

  5.      3 days Personal Leave per year of employment.


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

     1.         Bachelor’s degree in an appropriate major or course of study from an accredited college
                 or university.

  1.          Valid Arkansas teaching license for the grade level or subject area assigned.

  2.          Pass all required criminal background checks at personal expense.

  3.          Meet Highly Qualified Teacher designation requirements if applicable to the teaching
             assignment.

  4.          Ability to perform duties while following district policies as well as state and federal
             regulations, guidelines, and laws.

  5.          Ability to read, analyze, and interpret printed instructions, professional journal handbooks, bulletins,                               announcements, etc.

  6.          Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships and work cooperatively with students,
             peers, and parents.

  7.          Ability to follow written and verbal directions or instructions.

  8.          Demonstrate skill in written and oral communication, which could include effectively
             presenting information and responding to questions from groups of students,
             administrators, staff, and the general public.
                                                        
  9.          Demonstrate adequate computer skills, including Internet research, data
             entry, grade reports, etc.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES:

     1.      Direct the learning experiences of the students to meet planned instructional objectives.

  1.      Teach district approved curriculum based on guidelines established by the school
          district, state frameworks, and federal regulations.
  2.      Prepare for assigned classes by developing lesson plans and instructional materials. 
         Be able to show evidence of preparation upon request. Translate lesson plans into
         developmentally appropriate learning experiences.
  3.      Employ a variety of instructional techniques using instructional media when
         available and appropriate.
  4.      Evaluate pupils’ academic growth through teacher-made tests, standardized tests,
         checklists, observations, demonstrations, and other performance assessments; keep
         appropriate records and prepare progress reports.
  5.      Identify pupil needs, make appropriate referrals, and develop strategies to support
         students with an IEP or any other type of needed accommodation. 
  1.      Make modifications for G/T, ELL, LD, physically impaired, at-risk, and other needs of
         individual students, including their learning styles.
  2.      Collaborate with other members of the staff in planning instructional goals, objectives,
         and methods.  Assist in the selection of learning materials, equipment, or other
         instructional material.
  3.      Develop and maintain a safe and orderly classroom environment conducive to effective
         learning and appropriate to the maturity and interests of the students. 
  4.      Maintain accurate, complete records as required by district policy or law.
  1.      Be responsible for supervising the proper use of learning materials, equipment, or other
         instructional material.
  2.      Be available to students and parents for education related purposes during the
         instructional day and extended hours when necessary.
  3.     Take reasonable measures to maintain a safe and orderly environment to protect
        students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
  4.     Assist in implementing all policies and rules governing student conduct. Develop
        reasonable rules of classroom behavior and procedure, and maintain order in the
        classroom in a fair and just manner.
     
  5.     Attend and participate in faculty meetings, and professional development activities.

  6.     Communicate regularly with various internal and external publics to develop and maintain a positive                              school/community relationship.

  7.     Support and attend extra-curricular activities when possible (i.e. PTA/PTO,
        sporting and cultural events.)

  8.      Maintain acceptable attendance and punctuality.

  9.      Maintain high moral values both in principle and example by following state and local
         laws, rules, guidelines and standards. Strictly follow the Arkansas Code of Ethics for
         Educators.

  10.      Maintain and improve professional competence.

  11.      Follow and implement all district policies as well as state and federal law
         or guidelines.

  12.      Accept and respond to supervision.

  13.      Perform other duties as assigned by administration.


    PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
    While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand and talk or hear and sometimes walk and sit. The employee may occasionally push or lift 50 lbs. such as boxes of books and chromebook carts, etc. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision such as to read handwritten or typed material, and the ability to adjust focus.  This position required the individual to meet multiple demands from several people and interact with the public and other staff.
